Oye peeps,
This is a blog for those of you who want to keep up-to-date on the latest adventures ahead of Luke and me in Spain. Here is the 411 thus far. Luke and I are in Spain for one year participating in a program called "Auxiliares de conversación." Basically, we are English assistants in a bilingual school helping the kids improve their English. We are staying in Madrid but commuting to a suburb called "Getafe" about 7 miles south of the city. Luke is teaching third and fifth grade and I am teaching second grade. This will prove to be quite the difference in having taught 16-18 year olds, or will it? (I kid I kid). We arrived on September 21st after about 15 hours of traveling only to have to go straight to a training seminar. We then spent about a week looking for a piso (apartment) and finally found one in Malasaña, an eclectic neighborhood with cool restaurants and shops. I'm trying not to get my shop on as Madrid has my favorite store ever, H&M.
We will teach about 4 days at school and then hope to travel up Europe/Spain in our free time. This year is going to be interesting. I can already tell. We've only had 2 days at school and the schools here are quite different from the States. For one, the kids pretty much are out of control all school day. They come in screaming and leave screaming. Spanish people are known for being talkative and have little "private bubble" space. I have to tell them I don't speak any Spanish so they have to use English. Their little side conversations are hilarious as one of them said "I don't know English, what I am supposed to do, speak Chinese to her?" Anywho, I will try to update but sorry if it's mumbo jumbo at this point. We will also post pictures. Leave posts to let me know how you are back home and/or if something strikes you!
Que vayan con dios!
